In early October, we visited workshops of wood furniture craftsmen in Copenhagen. In 2018, the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sumida-ku, Tokyo and Denmark, this time was visited by Danish woodworking craftsmen who were asked to give lectures on Japanese tools. We were able to see Rasmus’s and Ken&Akiko’s private workshops, […]
The metal-forging techniques of Seki have been handed down for many centuries. Though the city is known for Japanese swords, one of Seki’s big sellers today is kitchen knives for export. Unfortunately, we didn’t happen across any tools there that would be good for woodworking. On the other hand, the Feather Museum featured some very […]
Three students from Capellagården visited us — they had apparently traveled by train, rather than flying here from Sweden. That seems to be a rather popular thing to do nowadays. We provided a lesson in how to use a kanna plane and an overview of our workshop, and the Japanese student who came with them served […]
We went to Gassan Ski Resort. On the way home, we stopped in at Mori Mohachi Shoten, a 300-year-old hardware store in Tsuruoka, Yamagata, and bought some old-fashioned everyday items. They brought food with them for lunch, and we had a fun meal together. The […]
My friend Woodworker Pale visited our house. Since he is making Yakisugi art works, the next day we went to see a traditional Yakisugi factory in Okayama.
September 26, October 6, 2018, Kenji gave lectures at the Capella Garden School of Art and the Karlmalmsten School at Linköping University. He studied woodworking at both schools over 20 years ago.
We held an exhibition of our works at the Konsthantverkarna Gallery in Stockholm, Sweden. More details are available in the “Exhibitions” section of our website. The artist talk on September 19 was a great time, and it was so popular that there wasn’t enough room to fit everyone who came.
Bodafors, Sweden is an old town famous for furniture with wood inlay work. There is a project underway there to renovate a group of houses to create an “art street.” We were invited to the TRÄ ART (WOOD ART) Exhibition and provided works to put on display, one of which was used on the main […]
